NOTHING TO FEAR – Release Day Interview

The lovely and super-talented Beth Kery has once again interviewed me regarding my latest release, NOTHING TO FEAR (out today at Loose Id!).
Yeah, it’s another Total Exposure Release Day. This time, it’s Ms. Lacey in the hot seat for her Loose ID Omnibus NOTHING TO FEAR.

What a lovely interview. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this, Beth. :-)

1. Congrats Lacey. NOTHING TO FEAR is a terrific idea–three erotic stories about three different women who have various fears and phobias and the four hot men who help them get past those fears. What was the genesis of the idea for this book?

Well, it all began with the first story in the omnibus. I wrote it as a stand-alone, after a particularly vivid nightmare about flying on a passenger plane that crashed onto an iceberg. (I must have been watching too much Lost the night before or something. LOL) At the time, the story was titled DON’T LOOK DOWN, and I really thought that would be the end of it. But when I sent it to Loose Id, my editor told me that the management team doesn’t accept short stories under most circumstances, and they asked if I’d be willing to write two more stand-alone yet loosely connected stories to form an omnibus. I agreed, and the end result is the three-story package you see now.

2. We all know you have a zombie-phobia. Any…er…real-life fears? (I’m not being prejudice of the paranormal variety of fears–zombies are DEAD after all.)

Oh, yeah. I’m terrified of a lot of things. Just a few, off the top of my head: heights, the dark (so the second story in the omnibus hit really close to home), doctors, dentists and perhaps saddest of all… failure.

3. Fill in the blank.

My worst fault is
an all-encompassing fear of failure that keeps me from trying new things, but I make up for it by challenging myself to take baby steps toward scary and exciting new goals.

4. You are a veteran writer. Do you ever wish you  had taken a different path in your writing, or done anything differently? If so, what? If not, why do you think you are on the right path?

I would have taken more risks (wow — do you see a theme emerging, or is it just me? LOL). I would have taken on more projects that challenged me, and moved further away from my comfort zone. But it’s never too late, right?

5. Out of all the characters in NOTHING TO FEAR, which is most similar to you and why? Which was the biggest conundrum to you?

The most similar to me is Shelley, the heroine from IN THE DARK. For one, we share a fear, so her phobia was a breeze to write. Two, we’re both desperately, madly, head-over-heels in love with our husbands. Except her husband is nothing like mine. :-)

The biggest conundrum was Jennifer, the heroine from IN THEIR ARMS. She’s terrified of emotional intimacy (for good reason, as it happens), but she’s totally open with her sexuality, to the point of flaunting it. She was a challenge for me to write, because I often found it difficult to get into her head. Hopefully I did a good enough job.

6. What’s up for you next, Lacey?

Ah! I was afraid you’d ask. *g* Honestly? For once… absolutely nothing. I’ve got nothing contracted, nothing in the finished stages, nothing even in the beginning stages. I guess the future’s a blank slate. I’m as curious as everyone else to see what comes next for me.

Thanks so much, Beth!
